What are Hexagon Bolts?
A Hexagon Bolt, commonly shortened to Hex Bolt, is a threaded fastener with a hexagonal head often used with nuts to join multiple components together. Nuts & Bolts work by compressing the parts held together between the bolts head and the nut - this causes a miniscule amount of elastic deformation of the bolt, and a resultant tension in the bolt which clamps the parts together with the bolt threads acting like a wedge. Hexagon Bolts are favoured for their robust shape, which makes them suitable for more heavy-duty fastening applications. Hexagon bolts, sometimes referred to as Hex Head Screws, are also generally available in larger sizes than alternative fasteners.

Plain Bolts are Accu's most common Hexagon Bolt range, and feature a reinforced, unthreaded portion below the head. For installation into pre-tapped holes, Fully Threaded Hexagon Bolts are available. Plain Hexagon Bolts.
Plain Hexagon Bolts feature an unthreaded portion below the head of the Bolt, which is stronger due to the absence of teeth. The unthreaded section can serve a variety of purposes, and is commonly used for anti-vibration, as a dowel, or as a point around which an unthreaded component can rotate. This type of bolt is the most commonly used, as bolt fastenings are generally held in place by the compression forces created by an accompanying Hexagon Nut, rather than by thread-to-thread contact with a housing.
Full Thread Hexagon Bolts.
As their name suggests, Full Thread Hexagon Bolts are fully threaded. This type of bolt is required when the shaft of a fastener is being inserted completely into a threaded hole. Fully Threaded Bolts are often used to securely fasten two threaded sections together. Full Thread Carriage Bolts are also a popular fastener choice.

What is The Difference Between a Screw and a Bolt?.
One general distinction between a screw and a bolt is that bolts are driven from the outside of the head, whereas screws are operated by a central drive. Another key difference is that bolts are generally used in conjunction with unthreaded holes and secured using Nuts, but screws are fastened directly into a threaded hole. However, many customers find that there is no universal distinction between these components, and there are numerous exceptions to these rules.
