Oldham Couplings are made up of three rotating discs - one connected to the input, one connected to the output, and a central hub which orbits between the two by sliding on a pair of tongues and grooves. Oldham Couplings are useful for their compact size, and are particularly useful in compensating for parallel misalignment.
A major advantage of Oldham Couplings is their ability to accommodate misalignment without increasing their bearing load. The only resistance to misalignment during operation is the friction between the hub and disk, meaning that Oldham Couplings are not put under more strain when used at maximum misalignment.
