Tufnuts® are a patented 2-Way Security Nut by Hafren Security fasteners. Whilst they require no specialist tooling to install, being able to be fastened with a standard spanner, they do require a second Tufnut® to be used during their unique installation or removal process.

To install, the first Tufnut is tightened by hand onto the bolt or screw, so that the flat edge of the tamper resistant nut is sat on the surface of the object. A second Tufnut, turned upside down is threaded down to the first Tufnut before loosening off slightly. Using a spanner to grip both Tufnuts together, the primary Tufnut can then be tightened to the desired torque before removing the top nut.

Owing to the unique angle shape and smooth edges of the Tufnut, this provides an increased resistance to vandalism and tampering, making this type of component an ideal choice for applications such as securing street signage and property protection.

For an alternative, higher security solution, Accu also lists 1-Way permanent fixings such as Shear Nuts or Kinmar Permanent Nuts.

Materials

Tufnuts are available from Accu in Bright Zinc Plated Steel (Cr3) with a hardened heat treatment.

Sizes

Tufnuts are available in Type 1 (square shape) in thread sizes M6, M8 and M10 or in Type 2 (hexagon shape) in M12 thread diameter.
