Threaded Hexagonal Standoffs, also called Female Threaded Spacers are designed to create clearance between threaded components and a target housing. The addition of an internal thread allows this component to be independently fastened within an assembly.
Standoffs are often seen in electronics applications, where they prevent contact shorting between powered components - a good example would be raising a printed circuit board (PCB) up off the case to create an air gap which will prevent any electrical shorts occurring.
