Discover more about the Metric Shim Washers range.
Metric Shim Washers, sometimes called 'shims', are very thin washers, designed to be stacked under the head of a screw to create highly precise spacers for a wide range of applications. DIN 988 Shim Washers, or simply 'Shims', are commonly used to ensure that a surface is level, or to remove excess space or play within a mechanism. Shim Washers are also used to absorb impacts and protect against damage in tight spaces. Shim Washers can be used alongside Precision Screws, as well as to accurately space Rotary Bearings, Belts and Pulleys, and Gears.
Shim Washers are manufactured in highly precise thicknesses of as little as 0.05mm, allowing several washers to be combined in order to calibrate the ideal spacing for an application. These Washers are commonly found within highly precise apparatus with strict spacing requirements, and are generally used specifically for their highly-precise thicknesses.
Due to the demanding manufacture process of creating such precise components, Shim Washers are often not used for general pre-loading and less precision-critical applications - in these applications, alternative Flat Washers are usually recommended.
Materials
Accu's Shim Washers are manufactured A2 Stainless Steel as standard. Chemical Matte Black Coatings can also be applied on customer request.
Metric Shim Washers
Shims are manufactured according to extremely tight tolerances and are available in metric internal diameters of between 3.00mm and 70.00mm, with thicknesses ranging from 0.05mm up to 3.00mm.
