Pop Rivets (also called Dome Rivets or Blind Rivets) are designed to provide a permanent fastening solution between overlapping surfaces. These fasteners are part of Accu's extensive range of Rivets, which includes various styles and materials including the new Plastic Pop Rivets.
These stainless steel components are often called blind rivets because the installer does not need to see the back of the application during installation. They are installed from the front only, which means that the installer does not require access to the other side of the structure. They are therefore commonly used for applications which have no or limited access to the back of panels. For example manufacturing cars, electronics, boats and aeroplanes.
Due to their construction, pop rivets provide strong resistance to shear forces (perpendicular to the rivet shaft) and can resist light tensioning loads (parallel to the rivet shaft).
The core of the fastener is called a mandrel, and is pulled into the component during installation to deform and lock the blind end. They are installed using a specially designed tool, sometimes called a Rivet Gun. Sealed Pop Rivets are similar to standard Pop Rivets, but feature a locking mandrel to create a more secure fastening and help to seal the application. Accu’s Solid Rivets provide a more durable fastening than Pop Rivets, but cannot be installed ‘blind’, and must be deformed from the tail-end.
Stainless Steel Rivets
Accu has a A2 / 304 stainless steel rivet range, as well as a stainless 316 rivet range (sometimes referred to as A4 or Marine Grade). They are available in self colour or with a chemical black finish.
Metric Pop Rivets
Accu's Blind Rivets are compliant with ISO 15983A, and are available in diameters of between 2.40mm and 6.40mm, with lengths of between 4.00mm and 40.00mm.
