Universal Joints, also called U Joints or Cardan Joints, are Couplings with an inbuilt pair of hinges, allowing rotary motion to be transmitted along a pair of shafts under angular misalignment.
Because of their design, angled Universal Joint Couplings do not transmit rotary motion at a constant speed. Even when an input speed is constant, the output speed of these mechanisms oscillates in a sinusoidal rhythm. Because of this, Universal Couplings are commonly found in pairs to reverse this effect.
This component is mounted to a shaft using a Pin Hub, which is fastened in place using a supplied Set Screw. Pin Hubs hold an advantage over Split Hub Universal Joints in that they can tightened and securely fastened to a slightly undersized shaft if necessary.
