Grub Screws (also called Set Screws outside the UK) are designed to not feature a protruding head, which allows them to be driven fully into pre-drilled holes. The lack of a head on a Grub Screw allows for the entire length of the shaft to be threaded, maximising thread engagement.
One of the most common uses for a Grub Screw is as a locking device, particularly on custom modified Gears, Taper Locking Bushes, or Adjusting Rings. The Grub Screw is tightened perpendicular to a shaft to restrict the movement of a connected component.
Due to their compact size, Grub Screws are often incorporated into ergonomic, space-saving, and aerodynamic designs. Grub Screws are commonly found within bicycles, mobile phones, and electronic cigarettes (Ecigs).
As the head of a Grub Screw sits flush with a housing's surface after installation, these fasteners minimise their exposure to corrosion by substances such as saltwater. The compact shape of a Grub Screw means that the head of the screw is retained inside the pilot hole itself, resulting in the smallest possible surface area being exposed to the elements.
Metric Grub Screws
Metric Grub Screws are available in diameters of between M1.2 and M16, and lengths of between 1.50mm and 190.00mm. Additional sizes can also be manufactured on customer request.
Imperial Grub Screws
Imperial Grub Screws are manufactured in a number of diameters, from No. 0 up to 3/4 inch. Lengths of between 1/16 inch and 4 inch are also available.
Components within this range are available in a range of material choices. The materials available include A2 and A4 Stainless Steel, Aluminium, Brass, Phosphor Bronze and PEEK. Chemical Blacking is also available on many products within this range, and features such as Thread Locking Patches are available on request.
Grub Screws are available in three different drive types: Socket, Slotted, and Hexalobular. Socket and Slotted drives are the most commmon drive types for this type of component, and Hexalobular drives can be manufactured on request for maximum torque transmission and security. The variety of available drives makes these components compatible with a wide range of AccuGroup Tools and Drive Bits.
Components in this range are manufactured with a number of tip varieties for a wide array of industrial applications. Among others, this range includes common Cup Points, sharp Cone Points, and protective Nylon Tips, all of which are specially designed for specific applications. Components with unique tips such as Brass Tip Set Screws and Silver Solder Set Screws are also available for specialist applications.
